Walking Away

After walking the Pennine Way as a modern-day troubadour, a journey recounted in his prize-winning bestseller Walking Home, Simon Armitage swapped the familiar uplands of the north for the less familiar (to him, at least) coastal fringes of Britain's south-west. Across 265 miles and twenty-four days, Britain's most restless and well-travelled poet gave readings every night in the landscapes of Somerset, Devon and Cornwall, taking poetry to distant communities and tourist hot-spots, busking his way from start to finish.

Walking Away is the story of a personal odyssey - including the worst of British weather, the kindness of strangers, sunstroke, and a holly stick - from one of our best-loved writers.
