The Species That Changed Itself

Other species adapt to their environment, but humans create their own. This allowed us to banish plague and famine from much of the planet and to enjoy prosperity beyond the dreams of our ancestors. In changing our world, however, we also changed ourselves.

Weaving together biology, social anthropology, epidemiology and history, Edwin Gale brilliantly tells the story of how we became self-domesticated animals in a world tailored to our convenience, and of how this will shape our future.
