The Scientist in the Crib

"Walk upstairs, open the door, and look in the crib. What do you see: Most of us see a picture of innocence and helplessness, a clean slate. But in fact, what we see in the crib is the greatest mind that has ever existed, the most powerful learning machine in the universe." Three renowned researchers have revolutionized our understanding of how babies and young children learn--and what these little creatures can teach us about ourselves. Based on hundreds of fascinating new studies of what babies know, the authors show that by the time children are three, they have solved problems that stumped Socrates with an agility that Bill Gates still can't coax out of computers. Best of all, parents are actually designed to help babies learn. Compulsively readable and filled with surprises at every turn, The Scientist in the Crib is a revelation. 279 pages.
