Nantucket: Portrait of an American Town

Twenty years ago, Nantucket had roughly four thousand year-round residents; now islanders number closer to 10,000, with summer enticing thousands of additional visitors. In the process, they have transformed the landscape, the sensibility, even the landmarks once taken for granted. Through lavish photographs, both archival and new, Nantucket: Portrait of an American Town takes a sweeping, comprehensive look at this beautiful island - its history and traditions, and the people who call it home. Long-time Nantucketer Mary Haft successfully digs beneath the façade of the famous resort to reveal the heart of a small town that beats within.
