Monsters University follows the earlier years of Mike Wazowski and James P. “Sulley” Sullivan, long before they became best friends and top scarers at Monsters, Inc. Mike arrives at Monsters University, filled with dreams of becoming a top scarer. From his very first steps on campus, he strives to prove his skills and achieve his goals with tenacity and grit.

Sulley, the son of a famed scarer family, is also enrolled at MU and quickly becomes Mike’s rival. Though naturally talented and confident, Sulley initially relies on his family name and doesn’t always take studies seriously. Their competitive clashes — fiery challenges in class and on campus — push both monsters to their limits, leading to academic setbacks when they are kicked out of the elite Scare Program due to their constant one-upmanship.

Facing disappointment and separated from their dreams, Mike and Sulley learn that success — and true scaring prowess — doesn’t come from rivalry but from teamwork, friendship, and resilience. Alongside an unlikely group of misfit classmates in the Oozma Kappa fraternity, they enter the Scare Games, a series of campus challenges that test courage, strategy, and trust. Through humor, mishaps, and shared trials, Mike and Sulley forge a powerful bond and discover what it truly means to be a scarer and a friend.
