About

Make Your Own Marshmallow Catapult by Mari Bolte introduces young readers to basic physics and engineering through a fun, hands-on construction project. Using a small collection of everyday materials, children follow illustrated, step-by-step instructions to build a working catapult capable of launching marshmallows.

The activity demonstrates how simple machines use force to produce movement, helping readers understand the relationship between energy, motion, and mechanical design. A dedicated materials section prepares children for the project, while clear photographs and accessible explanations guide them through the building process.

The Take It Further section encourages additional experimentation, allowing readers to explore how modifications may affect their catapult's performance. A concluding explanation of the science behind the activity, together with a glossary, reinforces key concepts and introduces useful scientific vocabulary.
