About

Although Giorgio Vasari was himself a painter, his talents were more widely utilized in the form of biographies. Starting with the biographies of Cimabue and Giotto and following the developments of Italian art to the epoch of Leonardo, Michelangelo and Titian, Lives of the Artists Volume One is a classic and remarkable achievement. With reflections on the state of Florentine art, including its philosophy, this is an invaluable addition to the field of biographical and critical study, a work that has retained its popularity since its original 1550 publication.
