About

Lights Out by Jacqueline Jules follows Sofia Martinez and her family when a powerful storm causes an unexpected power outage in their neighbourhood. Without electricity, their usual activities are interrupted, and Sofia must adjust to spending the evening without familiar conveniences.

Sofia accompanies her father to the store to purchase supplies, where their shopping trip leads to an idea for making the most of the situation. Returning home, they discover a creative way to enjoy time together despite the darkness. The story highlights resourcefulness, family cooperation, and the ability to find enjoyment when plans suddenly change. Illustrated by Kim Smith and incorporating Spanish vocabulary, this accessible early chapter book combines a relatable family experience with gentle humour and an encouraging message about adaptability.
