Down By The Bay (Raffi, Songs To Read)

One of my greatest rewards as a children's entertainer has been discovering how naturally and easily young children respond to music. They love to hear their favorite songs over and over and they quickly become familiar with the words. As children listen and sing they are learning the concepts that underlie beginning reading: story, sequence of events, rhyme, and rhythm. The repetition and predictable pattern of my songs make them "singable" and easy for children to remember. The same qualities make them readable, too. -Raffi. SC,
