About

My First Board Book: Colours introduces babies and young children to colors while helping them build vocabulary in Te Reo Māori. Inspired by the familiar New Zealand children's color song Mā is White, Donovan Bixley's bright illustrations pair recognizable objects with their corresponding colors and Māori words.

The book expands beyond the colors included in the traditional song, giving children an opportunity to learn additional Māori vocabulary. Clear, colorful pictures of familiar things make the concepts easy for toddlers and preschoolers to recognize and remember. Its sturdy board-book format is designed for repeated handling by very young readers and makes it suitable for shared reading between children and caregivers.

Combining early concept learning with Māori language development, the book offers an engaging introduction to colors, vocabulary, and an important part of New Zealand's cultural and linguistic heritage.
