A Wild Child's Book of Birds

A beautifully personal celebration of birds, nature and connection, written by an award-winning young naturalist.

In A Wild Child’s Book of Birds, Dara McAnulty shares his deep love of birds and the natural world, inviting readers to see wildlife through his curious, passionate eyes. Drawing on personal experiences, observations and reflections, he introduces a wide variety of birds found across Britain and beyond.

Each section blends factual information with lyrical writing, capturing not only what birds look like and how they behave, but how they make us feel. From garden visitors to birds of prey, Dara explores why birds matter, how they shape our landscapes and how closely they are tied to our own wellbeing.

Thoughtful, accessible and inspiring, A Wild Child’s Book of Birds encourages young readers to slow down, look closely and form their own relationships with nature. It is both an introduction to birds and a call to care for the wild world around us.

“A heartfelt and inspiring celebration of birds and belonging.” — The Guardian
