A Place to Belong

Although World War II has ended, twelve-year-old Hanako's life is still in upheaval. Her family has left America - the only home she's ever known - because of how terribly they, and other Japanese Americans, were treated during the war. But Japan, the home of Hanako's grandparents, is in shambles, and Hiroshima, their ancestral city, has been near decimated by an atomic bomb. Feeling unwanted in one country and unwelcome in the other, Hanako is determined to find her place in the world, but sometimes, a purpose is the very same thing. . . .
