Calico Captive

Based on an actual narrative diary published in 1807, Calico Captive skillfully reenacts an absorbing facet of history. Teenager Miriam Willard and her sister, brother-in-law, and their three children awake one morning to the terrifying cries of an Indian raid. Only the night before, Miriam's life had taken such a happy turn as a new sweetheart, Phineas Whitney, made his feelings known. Now he and her old life seem a million miles away as Miriam and her family are taken captive and forced to make the hazardous march north to Montreal, where a life of hard work and slavery is rumored to await.
