Trouble the Water

There's an old yellow dog wandering around town, and you can bet that eleven-year-old Callie - fearless, a little stubborn, and a lot nosy - is gonna figure out who he belongs to. But her sleuthing causes her to cross paths with Wendell, a white boy her very same age. As the two try to find the old dog's owner, their segregated town doesn't take kindly to their new friendship.

Meanwhile, a nearly invisible boy has lost his dog. He can't remember when exactly, and he can't figure out why he's stuck in a cabin by the river. His companion, a younger boy who's been invisible far longer, explains that they are ghosts, but they can't seem to cross the river to the other side just yet. . . .

As Callie and Wendell's yellow-dog quest brings them closer and closer to the cabin in the woods - and to the invisible boys - the townspeople's prejudice flares, and soon flames of anger and hate will threaten everyone.
