Crow Lake

Kate Morrison, a successful scientist in Toronto, has walled away the terrible summer 20 years before when her parents were killed in a car accident and she and her three siblings struggled, against all odds, to keep themselves together as a family. But since Kate left Crow Lake, the small farming town in northern Ontario where she grew up, she has remained distant from her younger sister Bo, and her two older brothers, Luke and Matt. Particularly Matt, the brother she adored. Then Daniel, the man she loves, presses her to share her family with him, and her emotional reticence begins to seriously erode their relationship. There is much at stake. In beautifully understated prose, Kate draws the reader back to that summer when, after their parents' death and with limited resources, the children were thrust into adult roles as they tried to fairly determine what sacrifices would be made and who would make them. The decisions made during that time reverberated into the future for them all. But it is Kate, both storyteller and participant, who still must make peace with those decisions and who finally has the most to lose - in love, and in life - if she does not.
