Wasted Prayer

Director of College Mobilization for International Justice Mission Greg Darley shows us how we often pray about what God has already told us to do instead of actually doing it - and why this must change.

Pray, wait, repeat. A relationship with God was never meant to be a prison sentence. For many people each new trial or life event means getting stuck in prayer limbo - unable to decide what college to attend, what job to take, or who to marry - without a clear sign from the heavens.

Grey Darley used to be that person. Trapped by fear and a cycle of "religiosity," Darley realized that God wants Christians to stop closing their eyes and start acting on his clear commands. Prayer was never meant to excuse living an unfulfilling and "safe" life. Now is the time for Christians to wake up, get off the sidelines, and change the world.

The Bible makes it clear, stretching from Abraham to John the Baptist and Peter, that there are times when prayer can actually be sinful. James says that faith without works is dead, and the great heroes of Christianity understood that God had given them clear commands demanding clear action.

Wasted Prayer shows that prayer is not a transaction but a relationship marked by obedience. Once Darley understood those key distinctions, he started experiencing true success in ministry and life. Learn how to break out of the "religious cycle" and grow in a fruitful relationship characterized by discipleship. And when the "nudge" from God comes, you will have the confidence to act.
