About

This novel recounts a fictionalized biography of the poet Pedro Garfias, a member of the Generation of '27, his life in Spain, his time at the Residencia de Estudiantes and friendship with the members of that group, his participation in the Civil War, his exile in Mexico, and his death in the city of Monterrey, in northern Mexico. What is a straying? Does loss mean anything? The Lost Heart is a novel about those who don't appear in the photo, those male and female artists of the Generation of '27 who were not part of the well-known names, but whose anodyne existence insists on appearing. They were part of the Second Republic and lived through the war, ending up displaced in exile.

Who was Pedro Garfias?

Who were the Sinsombrero?

What was Madrid like with them and the others, what was their art like, and the loss of Spain. Pedro Garfias, a poet photographed with Lorca, Dalí, and Buñuel, who then disappears to end up in Mexico, wandering between cities. But it is also the story of a bookstore and its ghosts, as well as that of a heart displaced from its rightful place since childhood by a strange anomaly and a rhythm that doesn't work well. The straying of the memory of '27 is the same as the out-of-sync heart.
