The Divine Comedy.1 Hell

Dante's Divine Comedy occupies a central place in the Western canon and is hailed as the finest of the Christian allegories. Hell is the first volume of this sweeping trilogy, and it follows Dante and the poet Virgil as they make their first descent into the world filled with tormented, unforgiven spirits. Touching also upon the hypocritical abuses of the church, this book was highly controversial when it first appeared and it remains essential reading for any admirer of Medieval and Renaissance literature. 346 pages.
