About

A story about family, friendship, and reaching for the stars!

Sadiq loves spending time with his family, but when his father leaves on a business trip, he worries about how much he'll miss his baba. Before leaving, Baba shares a special story about the Desert Star, sparking Sadiq's curiosity about the wonders of the night sky.

When Sadiq's third-grade class visits a planetarium, his fascination with space grows even stronger. Inspired by his father's love of astronomy, Sadiq dreams of starting a space club where he and his friends can explore the stars together.

But turning that dream into reality isn't easy. With a telescope beyond their budget, Sadiq and his classmates must find a creative solution and work together to make their space club a success.

Written by Siman Nuurali and illustrated by Anjan Sarkar, Sadiq and the Desert Star is a heartwarming early chapter book that blends STEM learning with friendship, problem-solving, and Somali American family traditions.

Perfect for readers ages 7–9, this inspiring adventure encourages children to follow their curiosity, appreciate their cultural heritage, and discover what they can accomplish through teamwork.
