A father is putting his young daughter to bed. As he tucks her in, their bedtime routine becomes the launchpad for an imaginative journey. The two begin to wonder aloud: “Who knows where we’ll go…” “Or what we might see…” “What on earth will we find? Oh, what might we be?” 

What follows is a poetic, rhyming adventure: everyday, familiar things transform under the imagination into wondrous landscapes and fantastic scenes. Tree trunks become the legs of giants; a playground swing turns into a space rocket; a grassy hill becomes a towering volcano. It’s an invitation to look at the ordinary and see magic in it.

The illustrations are rich and imaginative, giving life to these transformations: the colors, shapes, and visual metaphors shift as the child and parent imagine evolving worlds. The text uses lyrical language and rhythm which help the sense of wander and dream. 

Ultimately, Dare We Be Dragons? is less about a linear plot and more about the journey of the imagination, the bond between parent and child, and the promise that even as the child grows older (and the parent too), there is still space for adventures, for wonder, for transforming what is known into something new.
