What We Carry

Maya Shanbhag Lang grew up idolizing her brilliant mother, an accomplished physician who immigrated to the United States from India. But their relationship is irrevocably altered after Maya's mother develops Alzheimer's. When Maya's mother reveals long-held family secrets, Maya is sent reeling. Absorbing and vulnerable, What We Carry is about mothers and daughters, lies and truths, receiving and giving care, and how we cannot grow up until we fully understand the people who raised us.
