The Work of Wolves

Hailed by Howard Frank Mosher as "the best western-based fiction since Lonesome Dove and Plainsong," The Work of Wolves tells the story of Carson Fielding, a gifted young horseman who has taken a job training horses for the rich landowner Magnus Yarborough. Carson and Magnus have never seen eye to eye. As Carson becomes disaffected with the power-hungry Magnus, he grows more and more attracted to the rancher's wife - whom Carson is teaching to ride - and their relationship sets off a violent chain of events that unsettles their quiet reservation border town in South Dakota.
