About

Pollyanna follows a young orphan who is sent to live with her stern and emotionally distant Aunt Polly after being left penniless and without her parents. Rather than allowing hardship to overwhelm her, Pollyanna relies on the “glad game,” a habit of searching for something positive even in difficult circumstances.

Her remarkable optimism gradually influences the people around her, helping neighbors and members of her new community reconsider their own disappointments, relationships, and outlook on life. When Pollyanna herself faces a serious misfortune that challenges her ability to remain hopeful, the kindness she has shown others begins to return to her in unexpected ways.

This illustrated abridged edition presents Eleanor H. Porter’s classic story in accessible language for younger readers while emphasizing themes of resilience, gratitude, compassion, family, and the transformative effect of a positive outlook.
