Nine Quarters of Jerusalem: A New Biography of the Old City

Matthew Teller's highly original 'biography' is the story of Jerusalem told through its people--from well-documented Palestinian and Jewish communities to the Old City's neglected Indian and African populations, its Greek, Armenian and Syriac Cultures, its Dom Gypsy families and its Sufi mystics. Weaving reportage, history and interviews with Jerusalemites, Nine Quarters of Jerusalem looks beyond the divisions on the map to sift appearance from reality and reflect on the diverse influences and forgotten stories that make up the world's holiest city.
