Like many small towns, Big Stone Gap has a large cast of "characters" among its residents. From the sexy librarian that drives the Bookmobile to the snake-handling preacher, the town is home to a charming, eccentric bunch. At their center is Ave Maria Mulligan, who has just lost her mother to cancer and who believes her life has just about hit its peak. Until she receives a letter left by her mother, opening up a side of the family that Ave Maria never knew existed.
