About

Bears Make the Best Math Buddies follows Adelaide and her best friend, Bear, as they turn their attention from reading to mathematics. Adelaide is convinced that Bear would make an excellent math partner, but she must persuade her teacher that his unusual abilities and way of thinking can be valuable in the classroom.

As Adelaide champions her friend, the story introduces children to the many ways mathematics appears in ordinary life and demonstrates that math involves more than simply solving equations. Bear and Adelaide encounter mathematical thinking through concepts such as counting, shapes, patterns, measurement, estimation, problem-solving, and practical applications of numbers, helping young readers recognize that math surrounds them every day. At the same time, Adelaide's determination to include Bear develops themes of friendship, confidence, cooperation, acceptance, and recognizing the individual strengths of others.

The playful story makes mathematical concepts approachable for children who may find the subject intimidating while encouraging curiosity and a willingness to try different strategies. By combining a humorous friendship story with introductory math concepts, the book shows children that learning mathematics can be collaborative, creative, and enjoyable. It also encourages readers to appreciate that people—and bears—can bring different talents and perspectives to solving problems.
