About

Addison Mizner: A Palm Beach Memoir is the legendary architect's first-person account of his life and work at Palm Beach from his arrival in 1918 with patron Paris Singer and the building of the influential Everglades Club until 1924 when Mizner was about to launch his own plans for Boca Raton. During the memoir's six-year time span, Mizner completed nearly fifty houses and buildings at Palm Beach, writing of the complications he faced in building on a remote island. In addition, he organized Mizner Industries to manufacture the structural and decorative architectural elements for his and other architects' works. By then, Mizner's Spanish-Italian architectural adaptions had become South Florida's iconic resort style, placing him among the tip ranks of America's society architects.

Mizner's chronicle is enlivened by family, friends, and co-workers, as important to him as his architectural legacy. At Palm Beach, eh was joined by his brother, writer Wilson Mizner; nephew, Horace B. Chase Jr., who managed Mizner Industries; and niece, Ysabel Chase, who co-hosted events at the Via Mizner apartment. These interactions provide an enhanced appreciation for Mizner's character. Addison Mizner: A Palm Beach Memoir is published in association with the Historical Society of Palm Beach County.
