Originally hailing from the Dominican Republic, Julia Alvarez arrived in America with her family more than three decades ago. Having learned English from a kindly nun with the same Spanish-speaking roots, Alvarez began to relish writing poetry and prose in her newly-acquired language. Years later, she is well known in literary circles as a writer of novels and poetry. Her fifth major work, Something to Declare, is a collection of essays reflecting on the writer's and the immigrant's life in America.
NOTE: This title is a Bargain book. Bargain books are excess inventory or store returns from publishers that are discreetly marked with a small dot or line on the edge of the pages and, while most are in great condition, some books may exhibit minor cosmetic wear and tear. They may also have a price sticker on it from the original store it was returned from. In rare cases the actual cover of the book might not match the one in the display picture.
