On the brink of World War II, Wolfie and Dodo's father refuses to join the military and their family is forced out of London to a new home in the country. Leaving behind everything they've ever known is not easy, but then Wolfie and Dodo rescue a recently orphaned newborn foal, which they name Hero. The two siblings raise Hero to be a strong and beautiful horse, who lives up to his name when he saves them from a fire. But the war is escalating quickly and horses are in high demand. One night, Hero is stolen, and the children's lives are shattered again. Wolfie resolves to find and save Hero, even if it puts his own life in danger. Together, they can survive anything.
