Born in 1921 to a working-class London family, Celia Franca was an unlikely candidate for ballet greatness. But what she lacked in material circumstance she more than made up for with an almost unrivaled drive and love of dance. Despite great odds, Franca became a star performer with the Sadler's Wells Ballet Company; and when a Toronto group invited her across the Atlantic to establish a major ballet company, she eagerly took on that challenge. Her new company - the National Ballet of Canada - has gone on to become a major cultural force in Canada. The Pursuit of Perfect tells of the battles, the heartbreaks, the successes, and the accolades shared by Celia Franca and the company she founded.
