Take children on a magical journey to Renaissance Florence, as seen through the eyes of David, a young boy who finds himself in the company of some amazing people.
All of Florence is celebrating their ruler, Lorenzo de Medici, and David joins the parade of revelers and merrymakers. Amid the crowd, David meets a young artist named Michelangelo. Together David and Michelangelo explore Lorenzo de Medici's beautiful gardens-and meet a mischievous monkey. David and Michelangelo walk among the beautiful Greek and Roman statues in the garden, opening David's eyes to the amazing ability of artists to turn stone into seemingly lifelike forms. David is amazed to see his own face emerging out of a hunk of marble as Michelangelo uses him as a model for one of his sculptures.
As the day continues, David encounters wonderful creatures and people: a man with a head like a bear who gives him an eagle mask, a beautiful girl named Paola, a special spotted green frog, and reunites with the explorer named Columbus who is about to set out on a great expedition.
